Jack Walker has just sent me 45 demolition pictures of Albright Church. I though that with as much history as the Walker family had there throught the years, I'd post them. The link is on the right side of the screen.
I know that there is a lot of Jack's time invested into taking all of these pictures.
Thank you for sharing them with us!
Here is the explaination from Jack ...
"A little explanation is in order. The pictures are numbered as Day1 to Day6. These are in chronological order. However I did not make it there every day, there were weekend days and a rain day. So I believe it took 10 workdays to complete. So I went to take pictures on the first day, after it was all done, and 4 days in between.
What is left of the old part is the part of the basement leading from the educational addition to the boiler room. The chimney for the boiler is also remaining. This is so they can heat the functional part that remains during the winter. Also, the elevator section is remaining. Everything else from the old 1942 church is gone.
Take note of the pictures of the cornerstone, and also the concrete heading First Evangelical Church. These were saved, albeit not in perfect condition. These pictures represent the last day each of these was standing. Isn't it a shock to see just dirt where the church was standing? This can make the viewer emotional. "

Thanks for the pictures. It's hard to believe!
THANKS FOR THE PICTURES. I HOPE JACK IS COMING TO TOM'S BECAUSE I WOULD LIKE TO TALK TO HIM ABOUT THESE PICTURES.
Thanks, Jack, for taking the time to put together the photos. I can't believe it's really gone!
Thank you Jack for the pictures, you did a great job. It is very hard to look at the pictures. I was in Quebec when the fire hit but I heard about it very quickly. In the chancel there was a metal cross with my father's name on it. I would show it to my sisters when they would be there at church. I always wondered what would happen to that cross in the future when the congregation no longer knew of the Walker heritage at the church. Now I don't have to wonder any longer.
I'm sorry but I will not be attending the gathering over Labor Day. There are a few more pictures that I didn't include, and they are all originally 7 megapixel pictures. I reduced them to about 800 pixels which was a reduction to 26% of orginal size. I can put them all on CD for anyone who wants them. I also have a collection of historical pictures of the old and new parts, dedications, etc., many pictures during the fire, and pictures of the damage the day after. These all take up an entire CD. In case anyone missed an earlier post, reconstruction will not start until sometime in the Spring. You can contact me by email or put a post here if you want to inquire about something. BTW, I drove by the church to a Dr. appt. and all was fine and the sun was out. The storm started then when I drove back, the church was already on fire and fire trucks were just hooking up hoses. Due to lung problems I couldn't stick around to watch it. A coworker took all the "during the fire" pictures that I have. One more item to note, the wooden cross and candlestick holders made by my dad were in storage in the new part therefore they were saved.
