Don Walker Update 5/29

Dad is doing OK this morning. He is still stable and there are no signs of additional bleeding. The stroke was a "small one" in the Basal Ganglia region of the brain. This most effects motor skills. Since dad's mobility was limited already, the effects are not overly pronounced. He is having more trouble moving his arms and legs than before, and his speach is slow and somewhat difficult to hear, particularly as the day wears on. And of course, he is just plain tired.

He will move from the ICU to a regular room sometime today. Additionally, a hospital staff member conversant on therapy and home health options will be coming to talk with us about the next steps. We expect him to be in the hospital for several more days.

Dad is taking visitors, and one of us is usually at the hospital during the day. Stop by for a short while if you are in the area. He is at the St Joseph Regional Medical Center in South Bend.

We're glad to hear the stroke was "a small one", although still pretty scarey. I'll be talking to Dad today, so will let him know. We will keep Don in our prayers.
