I have been interested in the stories about ministerial Sunday dinners and have been tempted to post something about Sunday dinners in Pleasant Lake, IN in the mid '50's. But I'll hold that in reserve for a later time -------------- or perhaps Bob Drake or Sharon would like to contribute ?????
Meanwhile, bloggers may be entertained by some recent shenanigans in westcentral Indiana. You can get the gist from:

The $500 prize money was certainly adequate for the work my manager did, but none of Orville's millions was included.
Orville was born in Brazil, just 15 miles down the road.

WHAT RAYMOND IS ALLUDING TO IS OUR ATTEMPT TO GET A GOOD FREE MEAL AT RALEIGH & MARIE'S DINNER TABLE.
AT THE TIME RAYMOND AND I WERE IN SCHOOL AT TRI-STATE COLLEGE IN ANGOLA, INDIANA.
I WILL LET HIM EXPAND ON THAT BUT I WILL RECAP A TIME AFTER DINNER TOURING THEIR GARAGE WHEN I SAW A VERY OLD HAND CRANK TELEPHONE HANGING ON THE WALL. I ASKED RALEIGH WHAT THAT WAS FOR AND HE SAID THE PHONE COMPANY HAD REPLACED ALL HAND CRANK PHONES WITH "ELECTRIC" ONES AND THEY COULD KEEP THE OLD ONES IF THEY WANTED. WELL HE DID I GUESS BECAUSE IT WAS THERE, BUT NOT HOOKED UP. I ASKED IF I COULD HAVE IT.
WE WERE BOTH STUDING ENGEERING AND I THOUGHT I COULD HOOK THE OLD PHONE SO MY MOTHER COULD ANSWER THE PHONE FROM THE BASEMENT WHILE DURING THE WASHING OR IRONING. AN EARLY "CELL PHONE" IT ONLY WEIGHED ABOUT 20 POUNDS.
I GOT IT TO "SOMETIMES" WORK BUT THAT WASN'T ACCEPTABLE SO I JUST SET IT ASIDE.
MANY YEARS LATER WHILE DATING BOBBIE WE CAME ACROSS THE OLD PHONE. THE SMALL PART OF ME, WHO IS A LITTLE ORNERY, ASKED BOBBIE TO HOLD ON TO THE TWO POSTS STICKING OUT OF THE PHONE BOX. WELL YOU ALL KNOW, I CRANKED THAT BABY AS HARD AS I COULD AND BOBBIE JUMPED A MILE.
THAT WASN'T THE SMARTEST THING I EVER DID BUT WE ARE STILL TOGETHER.
AT ONE TIME OR ANOTHER I HAVE SHOCKED THE OTHER THREE KIDS BUT NOT AS HARD.
I ONCE HOOKED UP A 15 WATT LIGHT BULB AND EACH OF THE KIDS HAD A GREAT SHOW AND TELL AT SCHOOL.
WELL THATS SOME OF THE "REST OF THE STORY"
THERE ARE SOME OTHER PEOPLE I WOULD LIKE TO HAVE "PLEASE HOLD THESE POSTS ON THIS BOX" FOR A MINUTE.
BOB
Ray,
Is Orville your alter ego? I can't believe how much you look like him. Congratulations on such an honor!!!

I can't say Orville is my alter ego but it was interesting to hear his dauthter say that there is an uncanny resemblance between us. Orville's daughter, granddaughter, and two great grandsons were judges and they were unanimous that it was literally "no contest" between myself and the other contestants. They ought to know; who am I to doubt? Interestingly enough, his grandaughter is married to a fella I have been acquainted with for a couple years but had no idea she was of the Redenbacher lineage. They live only 3 miles or so from us.
