Adding some good news to the blog

I would like to start off by saying that Howard, Johnnie, and Don are in my prayers. I hope everyone gets better!!

My goal is to back for the reunion at Tom's next summer and hopefully make it to the Mishawaka reunion and see Don and everyone else as it has been a while. But for me, school started on Monday and we started working on our cars Friday doing brakes and tire mounting and balancing and we will soon be moving into the suspension parts. There are a couple guys I work with that are letting me do the brakes on there trucks for more experience. While I am going to school 9-4 Monday through Thursday, I also work every night now because i just got a promotion from a prep-cook to a side cook. What that is is I make salads and pizza's and design deserts. It is a nice step up from prepping but the downfall is I am the only one that works that line which is why i work every night excluding sunday.

I was at a car show on Saturday and got a pretty bad farmers tan on my neck while I was there. On the way home from the show on I-80, there was a van infront of me and all the sudden i saw a puff of smoke from in front of the van and he swerved right. After he swerves, I see a red car facing me in the middle of the highway. So I immediately pull off and stop and run to get this car out of the middle of the road. The owner was a man who looked about 80 and his attempt to push the car was next to nothing. The guy in the van also came to help push (the car stalled). But we got his car out of the road while other cars swerved around us. Come to find out he blew his rear tire and it was just completely shredded and the blow was so powerful that it dented and blackened his rear fender. But we got out his jack and spare and I changed the tire for him while he told us how fast his heart was beating. Once it was all changed and we let the car down and I talked to him for a min. to make sure he was ok to drive again. The car was a 68 Porche and after a min. the van left but I waited to see if his car would start and make sure he got himself turned around as he was still backwards. I slowly drove away leading him onto the highway safely. As I drove away I kept thinking how proud I am of myself and how both parents really must have taught me well.

Take care everyone! I will keep in touch as another chapter of my life unfolds.

Thank you so much for a beautiful post Alex! I'm so glad you were able to help somebody as you did. That could have been me out there. Well, not with the Porche of course. I've driven that road many many times over the years. Back in the 1960s, not all of it was interstate and we went back and forth between I-80 and old US 30. The stories I could write about that road!!

Alex, you are showing the Walker way: you would give someone the shirt off your back if they needed it, and you show a strong appreciation for true work ethic. The entire family is very proud of what you've done.

Alex,
Yes your mother and I are and have been very proud of you. There were times I had to fight with you about doing things, but I never had to make you go to a Walker Reunion. You always wanted to be around us old farts and help out when asked, and always seem to talk with everyone there. Both sides of your family have a strong work ethic and I know that our extended family is also proud of you.
Your Father,
