I've realized that as the Walker cousins reach new stages in life, there is a bigger need for more frequent communication. What I have decided to do, is try to offer a solution. I've come up with a way for us to have an online bulletin board. This will be a good way for you to either share family information, or to learn something about the concerns of the family. Previously, our family updates have been made by phone and email, but occasionally someone accidentally gets left out of the loop.
It has come to my attention that Bob Rickert passed away yesterday December 22, 2012. I don't have any details and am hoping one of the closer family members post as they become available.
Thanks for posting Dale. Yes, Bob died Saturday evening about 9:45 PM. He had been in the hospital last week for pneumonia. He had difficulty coughing strongly enough to relieve congestion. There were other complications including swallowing problems. He also had a seizure (TIA)after being returned to the nursing unit at Brookhaven retirement community. He had donated his body to Wright State Univ. so there will be no funeral. An obituary will likely be in the Dayton paper within a few days. A memorial service will be planned, most likely for shortly after the first of the year. I will plan to post more definite information as it becomes available. Ray Rickert
A memorial service for Bob Rickert will be held at 11:00 AM in Brookville, Ohio on Saturday, March 23, 2013 at Gilbert & Fellers Funeral Home . A luncheon for family and friends will follow immediately after the service at Brookville First United Methodist Church. The funeral home and the church are only a few blocks apart.
Additionally, Bob's wife, Virginia, died on January 18, 2013. She had been a faithful caregiver for Bob during the last year. Recently, she fell and suffered a concussion and later was diagnosed with a bowel obstruction. After electing not to have invasive surgery, she was transferred to Dayton Hospice where she died in comfort and peace. Her body was cremated and there will be no funeral or memorial services.
I will repost Bob's memorial service information again closer to March 23 to update any information needed and to add funeral home and church addresses.
