Don Walker update July 30

I'm afraid the news isn't too good. Dad is at home still, but is really struggling. A stool sample showed that he has contracted a resistant bacteria called Clostridium Difficile or CDiff for short. Probably contracted in the hospital. He is taking medicine to see if it helps somewhat, and if that doesn't help then there is some new expensive treatment they will try. He is on oxygen, and has great difficulty swallowing. Can't eat any solid food. He can't move himself at all and must be attended to 24 hours a day. The doctor feels that in this condition he is likely to eventually get pneumonia. Home Instead helpers come in every night from 10 PM to 6 AM so mom can get her sleep.

As always your family is in our prayers. My memories go back even before my teens, actually from childhood. Over the years I have missed seeing your part of the family, since I have always been in some other part of the country.

I read your blog along with a couple of others to Dad today. We're sorry to hear about the bacteria Don has contracted. Hopefully, the medicine will make him more comfortable. We're glad your Mom has some help. The people from Home Instead were really good when we used their services.
