George Henkler Obituary

Feb. 22, 1933 - April 30, 2008

GOSHEN — George R. Henkler Jr., 75, of 22 Greenway Drive, formerly of Osceola, died at 4:05 a.m. Wednesday (April 30, 2008) at home.

He was born Feb. 22, 1933, in Chicago to George R. and Marguerite (Seifer) Henkler Sr. On March 25, 1995, he married Mary M. Walker Parrott in Mishawaka.

She survives along with one daughter, Diana (Thomas) Weinkauf of Elkhart; one son, Craig (Candace) Henkler of Goshen; one stepdaughter, June (Peter) Mierau of Alamo, Calif.; one stepson, Dale (Debra) Parrott of Goshen; 15 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one brother, James (Patsy) Henkler of Elkhart.

Friends may call one hour prior to Saturday's 2 p.m. memorial service at Brenneman Memorial Missionary Church, Goshen. The Rev. Russ Hunsberger will officiate. Burial will be in South Lawn Cemetery, South Bend.

Mr. Henkler graduated in 1951 as salutatorian from Jimtown High School, where he had played basketball. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War in Germany. He was a member of Elkhart County Conservation Club and wintered in Florida for 10 years.

He was a printer at Truth Publishing for 35 years. He loved to fish, garden, bargain shop and collect coins. He helped his children build their homes.
