Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Hancock Co, IN

Two weeks ago, Kathy and I visited the Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Hancock Co, IN. Buried in this cemetery are Raleigh's parents, William and Lavina Walker, and his Grandparents, John and Mary Polly Walker. Mary raised Raleigh following Lavina's death in 1867. A picture is attached.

This cemetery is in poor condition, and in fact, William's tombstone has been toppled from its base. I have contacted the Hancock County Cemetery Commission to find out if there is anything we as a family can do to restore and maintain the cemetery.

The cemetery is 2 miles west of Maxwell, IN and is very near the land that many of the early Walkers farmed between 1825 and 1900. Also, several miles north of this cemetery is the Olvey Cemetery, where Robert and Dorcas Walker, Raleigh's Great-grandparents are buried. Robert and Dorcas first came to Hancock Co in the 1830s.

Craig,

That is an awsome photo! Did you happen to snap any closeup shots.

He left me copies Dale. I'll post them in my spot if I can remember how.

I have more pictures of the cemeteries that I took with my camera. If you give me your picture log in, I can add them. Or I suppose I could start my own file.

Also, some of the pictures are from my mother's family (Smiley, Pool) so you can delete those if you like.

I didn't look at what I posted, I just picked some that didn't look like duplicates. Try sending me some. I'll clear out my inbox.

Craig, Keep up the good work. I would like to go there sometime and look around. I hope they can keep the cemetery in good shape.

Dave, Perhaps we can take a road trip from Tom's over July 4th. Kathy and I plan to come this year.
