New Zealand

Hello from New Zealand. Robin and I are in the middle of the north island on a lake called Lake Taupo. It is beautiful here. My suitcase finally got here after 2 days. It has already been to Melbourne, Australia before me. All in good time. We visited a volcano today and drove around the lake. I'm doing better at driving on the wrong side of the road. No accidents yet! I'll send more when I can. Internet access is expensive. WISH YOU WERE HERE! I wish I could post pictures.

Ah yes, summer fishing in New Zealand... pristine lakes, mountain streams...

whoa - back to reality 18" of snow with an inch of freezing rain on top of it today and 2 degrees forecast for tomorrow... gotta love Michigan!

Tom, it's not that you're on the wrong side of the road, now you can take those inside curves that much faster!

Thanks Tom............I KNOW which line was written for me. You're terribly ornery. But...what goes around comes around. Love ya's...

Today we visited a cave with "Glow Worms" and a Kiwi "zoo" of sorts. Yesterday we saw a native community that lives in the middle of a hot springs area. They cook their food in the hot springs. In the last 3 days we have seen 3 of of the top 10 great places to visit in NZ. The weather is great! They grow deer on farms so we bought venison sausage at the grocery. We've also had New Zealand mussels and lamb chops. Lots of cows and sheep here. The terrain is highly varied. One minute you are driving in Washington and the next minute you are in Kentucky. There are hills all over.

We were off to the coast today. The weather is still beautiful and the scenery stunning. The people are very friendly.

We are looking around the lake today and doing local stuff. We are packing to leave for the southern end of the north island. Friday night we are in Wellington at a B&B and Saturday afternoon we fly to Christchurch on the south island. We are wearing shorts today!

Tonight we are in the small town of Te Anau, NZ on the SW side of the south island. You can find us on Google Maps. On Tuesday we go to see the fijords on Milford Sound. We have already taken about 400 pictures and we haven't been gone 2 weeks yet. We went up a gondola and had lunch above Queenstown, NZ today. Paul taught us the trick of doing that. Thanks Paul for teaching us so much. After France, we feel much more comfortable traveling overseas.
