It all happened pretty fast and late at night. I'll do my best to fill in the blanks.
It all happened last week as we were having one of those thunderstorms that was traveling through Goshen. It was late, around 11:00 or so. We had just turned the TV off and were getting ready for bed. I had decided that I'd rather get up with the dogs later than to force them out into the rain. Max had another idea. He was sitting by the door to our bedroom giving me "the" look. Killer (otherwise known as Sadie) was all tucked in for the night and was also giving me a look. Sadie's look was more like "you want we to go where? Don't you know we are in the middle of a thunder storm?" I gave her a nudge to get her on her way.
Max runs to the door and is anxious to go out until he sees the rain and then he stops dead in his tracks. Now, I had already walked clear to the other end of the house and he was going to go out. He also got a nudge in the rump, out he want. All of a sudden I hear something crashing into the chain link fence and a very deep "WOOF". Well that's all it took for Sadie who was safe and dry inside the house to take off. I hear two dogs barking at something in the nighttime rain. I figured it was the possum that had been visiting our garage (that's another story) so I thought I better poke my head out and see what was going on. I couldn't see much but it was obvious that they were chasing something. I was wearing only my night shorts standing with the door half open when here comes something towards me at a high rate of speed with a 5 pound Yorkie-poo hot on it's heals. Well I didn't want that "pesky wabbit" to get into the house and I was more outside than in so I went out. Here I am, outside, in the rain with a crazed wabbit running back and forth on the deck trying to get away from Sadie. There were only two ways to get away. One was the way he came from (back past me) and the other was... Do you remember the part where I said "did you know rabbits can swim?", well they can. That wabbit took a giant leap into the pool and went swimming. He couldn't get back out because there was a crazed dog barking at the edge of the (above ground) pool. Sadie had won, but now what? The wabbit was trapped and swimming from side to side. I thought I'd better think quick because I was getting wetter by the minute. Finally, I was able to get the dogs back in the house (both wet by now) but the wabbit was getting tired and still couldn't get out. I have an Idea. I'll use the 10 foot aluminum pool pole (in the thunder storm. duh!) with a net on the end. Did you ever try to catch a wabbit with a pool net on a dark and rainy night? Didn't think so. It took a few try's but I was able to get under the net under the wabbit and to the ground. Sorry about the 4 foot drop wabbit. Towels for all involved and off to bed. Whew!

Reminds me of what our dog Tango did a couple of months ago. He spotted at wabbit along the neighbors fence and gave chase. About the second house down the dog out ran the wabbit and turned around and told the wabbit he had won the race.
that's hilarious! :D
