I've realized that as the Walker cousins reach new stages in life, there is a bigger need for more frequent communication. What I have decided to do, is try to offer a solution. I've come up with a way for us to have an online bulletin board. This will be a good way for you to either share family information, or to learn something about the concerns of the family. Previously, our family updates have been made by phone and email, but occasionally someone accidentally gets left out of the loop.

THE NEW MEXICO WALKERS
I SURE AM ENJOYING THE UPDATES AND FAMILY STORIES FROM ALL OF THE COUSINS. I HAVE HEARD MANY OF THESE STORIES AND ESPECIALLY ENJOYED THE STORY OF HOW OUR GRANPARENTS MET BACK IN 1897. I HAVE READ THAT STORY MANY TIMES. JO ELLYN AND I WERE IN SILVER CITY, NEW MEXICO FOR THE WEEKEND WITH BUSINESS AND WILL BE IN ALBUQUERQUE THIS COMING WEEKEND. WE TRAVEL AROUND SOUTHERN NEW MEXICO AND WEST TEXAS FOR OUR BUSINESS. OUR BUSIEST SHOW OF THE YEAR IS OVER LABOR DAY WEEKEND IN RUIDOSO, NEW MEXICO UP IN THE COOL PINES OF THE SACRAMENTO/WHITE MOUNTAINS AT ABOUT 6000 FOOT ELEVATION. WE WOULD LOVE TO COME TO THE REUNION BUT IT IS NOT PROFITABLE TO MISS THE RUIDOSO SHOW. MARLENE IF YOU EVER GET TO EL PASO, GIVE US A CALL AS UNITED DOES FLY THERE. IF ANY OF YOU ARE NEAR OR COMING TO NEW MEXICO, PLEASE CALL US. WE'D LOVE TO SEE YOU. WE ARE BACK IN SUMMER AFTER A WEEK OF RAINY MONSOON WEATHER. HOWEVER, SOME HIGHER HUMIDITY IS LINGERING IN THE AIR AND WITH 100 DEGREE TEMPERATURES, IT CAN BE MISERABLE. OUR HUMIDITY IS USUALLY AROUND 10. CLASSES START AT NEW MEXICO STATE UNIVERSITY ON THE 22ND AND I AM GEARING UP FOR A BUSY SEMESTER. LOOKS LIKE THE ENROLLMENT WILL BE DOWN SOME FOR THE SEMESTER.

Hi Roger!
Do you remember staying at my house? Do you remember going through my coins? That was just SO awesome for me...even if it didn't seem like much to you! I've been thinking of you and Jo Ellen a lot lately. I'm so sorry you two aren't coming for Labor Day, but I do understand. Ya gotta do whatcha gotta do. I'm still gonna make it out there to see you both someday. (Can we still go see the bats?)
Nice to hear from you, Roger give us some more stories on what you do in traveling around. Is it for coins or other things?
John
Good Evening Roger. I guess you were the first Walker to move to NM. I'm not sure how many years you beat me by. I made my first visit in May 1972 to Los Alamos and moved there in 1975. My first drive through trip was in 1953. They wouldn't let me drive on that trip.
Are you a student at the university? or a professor? Update u a bit. Thanks.
Debra, We are leaving the light on for you and Dale but with the increased electric rates in Las Cruces, I'll go broke before I see you. Yes, If you make it to New Mexico, we will go see the bats as they still fly nightly. Tom, I moved to Clovis in September of 1972 and left in August of 1975. I passed through and finally returned to Alamogordo in July of 1985. I moved to Las Cruces in December of 1994 as I got tired of driving the 70 miles each way to the university for classes and my job. I have worked in the archives (Rio Grande Historical Collections), the Alumni Association, and currently in Department of Aerospace Studies (better known as Air Force ROTC). I have worked at New Mexico State University since 1993. I also have 3 degrees from NMSU in history (AA, BA, & MA). I am credentialed to teach New Mexico History and do occassionally teach Air Force history. My job is taking care of the uniforms for the air force even though it is a part time job. I also operate a coin business in Las Cruces. We travel over southern New Mexico, West Texas, and occassionally into Arizona. All of this keeps Jo Ellyn and I very busy. We have 4 grandchildren and two step grandchildren. The oldest is a student at Arizona State and the youngest entered kindergarten today. By the way, I was off on the elevation of Ruidoso. It is near the 7000 foot mark and Silver City is at 6000 feet. We would love to hear from all of the Walkers
I remember going to Ruidoso when we visited you along with other places. White Sands was another place we visited. Do you remember taking us there?
