Hi All:
I took Dad to the retina specialist today. He's graduated from once a month visits to every two months. For those of you who don't know, Dad had a mini stroke in his left eye around the time Mom (Norma Jean) passed away. He first noticed that he couldn't see much out of his left eye before we left San Diego. While we were in South Bend, I took him to his former eye doctor and this was his diagnosis. He told us to follow up when we returned to San Diego. After a couple of referrals, we started with the specialist, first every 2 weeks for a couple months, then every 3 weeks for another couple of months, then once per month and now don't have to go back for 2 months. They are looking for evidence of the body attempting to grow new blood vessels to replace the ones that were damaged by the stroke. Apparently, these would never actually function correctly, and likely would be prone to breakage and leakage, which could cause more damage. He can only see out of half of the left eye, and then not very clearly. Thankfully, the right eye seems to be reasonably good. We got him a new pair of reading glasses a couple of months ago, which seem to help. I thought about working with him on the computer tonight, but his eyes were dialated, so he couldn't see much! I'll get him going sometime soon. He goes to the cardiologist tomorrow. He's contributing to the San Diego campus of the Walker hospital! With all I've been reading lately, it's more than a wing!
Sure am enjoying all of your stories and everyone's comments.
