End of an Era

When we moved to this house in 1988, one of the things we loved were the 2 BIG ash trees in the back yard.  They were great trees and provided us a lot of shade and they presided over numerous picnics.  But alas along came the Ash borer and now the trees have to go.  If we don't have them taken out, they could hit the house if they fell.

Well, this morning we have had loggers come in and they will spend much of the week taking out our Ash trees.  They will die soon and it is better that we can get lumber from them before they die.  We don't know how many will be good enough to be lumber, but as they started the score is 4 good and 2 bad.  Yes, we expect a lot of firewood.  We expect about 40 trees to be removed this week, including the 2 in the back yard..

We have cousin Denny Cox to thank for all of this help.  He put us on to a guy nearby that does this kind of work for a living.  Thank you Denny.  I am confident I have the right people working out there.

As for the 2 big trees in the back, they were like dear old friends.  But the cycle of life must continue.  And they gave us all many many happy memories.  Thank you fine trees for your cherished memories and for the service you gave over all of these years.

I am sorry to see them go too.
You did give them a fine fairwell.

Perhaps I should call this "Ode to a tree" But then I'm no John Keats. Or maybe a John Keats wannabe.
