The Old Homestead is gone

Many of you may know that the house my mom and dad moved into in 1947 has been torn down, along with the shrubs and trees around it. Don and Iris Walker moved into this house in 1947 and lived in it for about 10 years. In 1957 the year I was born they moved into the brick house and rented this house out. Talk of tearing it down has been going on since I can remember. However the latest tenant mom was not going to kick out. But she decided to move into an apartment, so down came the house. The Before picture was taken mid-July. The after pic was taken today, August 7. Plans are to plant grass, add a tree or two, and sell off 15 feet of the east of the property to my Aunt Brenda and Uncle Jerry. The main brick house was not really sellable with this old house on the property. It didn't meet setback requirements among other things and we have marveled that it didn't fall down on its own. Dad used to say there was nothing bigger than a 2x4 in its construction. The foundation was single bricks lined up. It is taking some getting used to, to see it all gone. Progress, I guess.

IN THE AFTER PICTURE IT DOESN'T LOOK LIKE A BIG ENOUGH AREA TO EVEN HAVE HAD A HOUSE ON IT! I'M SURE THIS WAS DIFFICULT FOR ALL OF YOU SEE HAPPEN BUT IT SOUNDS LIKE THERE WERE A LOT MORE REASONS TO TAKE IT DOWN THAN NOT.
