Another update from me

I think the last time I posted here, I was still wrenching on cars at Greve Chrysler in Van Wert... Well, quite a few things have changed since then... They had transferred me to Wapakoneta, which made my drive one hour one way to work... That got old pretty quick... So I got the itch to move back to Toledo as my former stepdad had offered me a place to stay... I did some job hunting and ended up grabbing food at the restaurant I use to work at as its always been a very welcoming place... The head cook came out and gladly had a meal with me to catch up on the times... I mentioned I had been looking for work around the Toledo area and he said he would be right back... He walked back out of the kitchen and said he would be more than happy to hire me back on the staff... I accepted... Now I work 1/2 mile away from home instead of 55 miles from home... They started me out dishwashing as all three dishwashers requested off for 3 weeks, so I worked the first 21 days in a row... After they came back, I was moved up to prep cooking and after 6 months, I mentioned wanting to move up... Shortly after, I was moved up to the food line and I am now the main kitchen closer (basically, I am the "Number 2" in the kitchen, directly under the head cook), My schedule is usually 5-1 or 5-2 depending on late night business... After this coming weekend, I will have been there exactly 1 year and in that time, we have opened our third store about 20 minutes away which has been doing very well... I am pretty happy to see the business I am with, growing... Heres a link to some info on the restaurant:

When I am not at work, I still enjoy wrenching but I have found it to be a hobby and not a career... I found this out when I found myself hating work as I burned myself out by wrenching all day, every day, as I was doing multiple side jobs... Now, I still do quite a few side jobs and buy and sell cars... I still have my Chevy truck, a Supercharged Regal which is getting painted and my newest is an 04 Focus 5 speed manual which is up for sale, its my 21st vehicle... Heres a picture of all three together... You probably wouldnt believe that the miles on them add up to 634,000 miles!!

I hope everyone is doing well! I am looking at picking up a second job in the morning so I can pay off some past debt and be able to move out on my own... Also, if anyone has any leads on career openings, I am more than willing to at least apply... Take care everyone

I always wondered if you'd end up a cook rather than a wrencher.

Ask to be a head cook at the new restaurant they are opening. Or become a manager at a new one.

Many successful people sell themselves as being able to do things they have not yet learned. My brother-in-law Bob is a perfect example. Another example is Rachael Ray.

More power to you Alex. Remember the boss makes the most money, also has taken the most risk. So I agree with Tom seek the store management position.
I have owned 22 vehicles. So you will probably own three times what I have owned when you get to be my age. The 22 vehicles were spread over the last 60 years.

The third restaurant is already opened... The 4th one may come in a couple years but management is definitely my goal... I still have quite a bit to learn before I would want to take on more responsibility... The head cook has me running the line at night but I feel there is lots of room for improvement on my part... If another position came along with higher pay and benefits, I would gladly take it but for now, I am just going to keep improving and moving up where Im at
