RICHARD H. "DICK" ALLSPAW

RICHARD H. "DICK" ALLSPAW, 78, of Monroe, Ind., passed away on Saturday, Oct. 22, 2011, at home. Born June 28, 1933, in Berne, he was the son of Robert and Harriet (Hum phries) Allspaw. He married Sharon (Walker) on June 8, 1969. He graduated from Berne-French High School; Taylor University; and earned a master's degree from Ball State University. He served in the U.S. Army from 1955 to 1957. His teaching career began at Geneva High School (in 1957-1958), and contiued at Adams Central High School (from 1958 to 1995) he taught physics and chemistry. He worked as timekeeper at Adams Central for various sports for over 40 years. As a lifelong active member of Trinity United Methodist Church, he served on many boards and committees, and acted as church treasurer for the past 28 years. He was a charter member of the Edelweiss Men's Chorus and loved every minute of his 17 years with them. He was also on the Board of the South Adams Senior Center. Surviving are his wife, Sharon; daughter, Leanna (John) Ginocchio of Marshall, Minn.; son, Gregory (Elizabeth) Allspaw of Brownsburg, Ind.; sister, Ruth Ann (Ted) Hopkins of Corydon, Iowa; brother, David (Fran) Allspaw of Sidney, Ohio; and three grandchildren, Kayli and Jacob Ginocchio and Ethan Allspaw. Funeral service is 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 26, 2011, at Trinity United Methodist Church, 1217 West Clark St., Berne, with visitation one hour prior. The Rev. Barry Humble and the Rev. Anita Rediger officiating. Visitation also from 2 to 8 p.m. today, Oct. 25, 2011, at Yager-Kirchofer Funeral Home, 365 West Main St., Berne. Burial in M.R.E. Cemetery. Memorials to Trinity United Methodist Church, Family Life Care, Edelweiss Men's Chorus, or South Adams Senior Center.
