Debra Drake

I just called Bob Drake to see if I could get an update on Debra. He and Bobbie are at the hospital, so he doesn't have a good way to update our family, but was appreciative to have the news posted. He told me Debra was admitted last evening with pneumonia. As some of you may recall, the last time she had it she was in the hospital for months. That was such a battle for her that this time the Drs decided to put her directly into ICU and try to nip this in the bud. There was considerable difficulty drawing blood, so they put a pic-line in to aid in that process. This is actually better for Debra's emotional well being too. As long as she can't see it she's more likely to forget it for awhile. She's handling the oxygen mask pretty well, which is a nice surprise. Bobbie was able to stay overnight in her room, Bob may take a turn also. Let's keep them all prayed up!

Thanks for calling and getting an update. I have been wondering and worrying about Debra. She is in my prayers. Don't forget her birthday is November 7. Maybe we can all send her a card. I am sure that would make her feel a little better. Bob and Bobbie are in my prayers too.

Deb will be 47 on (let's say it together) November 7th.

Her home address is
3840 Silverwood Drive
Stow, OH 44224

I just talked to my mom (Bobbie) who is on her way home from the hospital. Deb may be moved out of ICU tomorrow. The tests aren't yet complete to determine if this is bacterial or viral, so they're treating her for both. She's getting 6 breathing/respiratory therapy treatments a day and Mom says she sees improvement.

Thanks all for your prayers.

Kim, d of Bob and Bobbie Drake, sister to Deb.

Kim,
Thanks so much for the update and the info. It sounds a little more encouraging, but I will still be praying for her. Good to hear from you. If Debra is up to a phone call, I would love to say hi. We love to talk on the phone to each other - just ask your mom.

You are a rare Walker because you don't know Debra's birthday or how old she is, she tells everyone over and over each time she sees them. Did I say over and over.

Deb's update 10:00 pm oct 31.
She is still in the hospital and in ICU. She is doing much better tonight they reduced her O2 level from 6 to 4. Flow rate. This is with a "candler", nose feed rather than a mask. She is holding between 90 and 100% @ 4 with the candler.
We are not talking about her birthday yet, you all know she has about 4 to 5 parties each year.
They are,Our family, church, work, Thansgiving time and any body else she can con into a new party. See what I mean June.
We were told two more days in ICU and then the regular hospital room.
No idea how long there.
Her room phone number is 330 615 3572, She loves the calls.

I guess I haven't had the privilege to talk to Debra more than a couple of times; that coupled with my poor memory......... I did enjoy those times and look forward to our paths crossing again sometime.

Debra is still in ICU and will be for a few more days. There is a little improvement in that they have reduced the amount of oxygen she is getting and using a canula instead of a mask. We still do not know if the pneumonia is bacterial or viral so they are treating her for both. The results of the swine flu test have not come back. Hopefully we will know more early in the week. We are with her every day and taking turns staying with her at night. The nurses have been great about letting us stay. They are taking good care of us too.

Thank you for all of the updates on Debra. We are in the Canary Islands this morning and for the next 5 days will be crossing the Atlantic Ocean. Everything is going well. The weather is perfect 72 today but humid. We are all pulling for her. We are not going hungry on the ship. Elaine is off to a Garden tour today and the rest of us are wandering around town. I found an internet cafe. Internet aboard ship costs about 100 times more than here. We are pulling for you Debra!!
