Interesting Video

There has been an interesting situation going on above the building across the street from where I work that I just happened to notice Monday night. I was so fascinated by it that I took my camera the next night and was able to get a video. It would be interesting to hear if any of you have ever seen anything like this before and how long it lasts.

Well, I have 3 theories.

1. Anyone who has found the Fountain of Youth must be suspect, in which case this is a figment of his imagination moved onto video media.

2. It is the bats returning home, except that they would be leaving at night. I expect to see bats leaving from Carlsbad next month.

and 3. The Chimney Swift. Check this reference: http://www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/Chimney_Swift/lifehistory

BTW, I have toured the Cornell Lab of Ornithology. The Professor I did a post-doc with became the Provost at Cornell and I was at his retirement party held in the Ornithology building.

But, I've never seen anything like this before.

Tom. I know that there are those that think that I have Photoshopped different images in the past but I can assure you this is real. The whole scenario from a completely clear sky to all the birds quietly tucked away for a good nights sleep only took 30 minutes. I was able to watch this four times this week always at dusk (8:15)

Dale, Is that building abandoned

The building in the video it the Eagles lodge. I'm pretty sure it's used everyday.

Looked like bats to me, but not seeing from close up, they could be swifts. I would think either one would go out and feed on flying insects for longer than that. I've also never seen that many swifts in such a small area, whereas bats do things like that.

I WILL STAND BY YOU DALE, I HAVE SEEN THIS SEVERAL TIMES AT A TWO STORY BRICK BUILDING IN KENT OH.
THE BIRDS CIRCLE THEN DIVE INTO A LARGE CHIMMEY. I HAVE SEEN A HOLE FLOCK OF BIRDS GOING IN.
THEY HAVE PUT A SCREEN OVER THE TOP OF THE CHIMMEY NOW SO NO MORE BIRDS.
