This is a picture (taken ca. 1962) of my Dad's (Robert) church in Pt. Pleasant near Elk Grove, California. My parents are buried to the left in the picture. That is our dog Corky in the road. Both my sister Carol and my niece Rhonda attend this church. The current minister at Pt. Pleasant is Pastor Neal. My father was his mentor when he chose to become a minister. He is the one who did my parents funerals and the one who married Glenn and Rhonda. This week there was an article in the Elk Grove Citizen about the Little Church worth Finding. The music director there when my father was there is Harold and he is the one that sang the song "The Love of God" 2 years ago that we played at the campout. Today Harold's grandson is music director there. Anyway, something interesting in the news for all of you to see. I have many happy memories from Pt. Pleasant with a touch of saddness. Most of the people I knew are in the cemetery. My parents are now buried near the parents of my high school friend Lamoin. My high school friend Bill who died of cancer is buried there.

Nice article Tom. Does it make you want to move back to California?
This week it was 112 degrees in the Central Valley of California while here it was in the 70s. I paid $2.25/gal for gas, 78cents a dz for eggs and $1.75/gal for milk. These are much higher in California. But the biggie is that if I decided to move back to Calif., Robin would probably go bye bye. She really hates the heat and the cold damp fog, traffic etc. So, I look at the bright side of living in the midwest. On the other hand, I still have a cemetery plot at Forest Lawn Glendale which is where there was talk of Michael Jackson being buried. Robin says if I move back to California, I will need it.
If I had to move to California I wouldn't be able to live with myself. I barely can now.
Thanks for posting the Point Pleasant information. It is quite interesting. I am reminded of Pleasant Lake, IN.
I don't see it in the pic but I'm guessing there is a place to get ice cream around there somewhere. :-)
To the right of the picture there was an old community store run by Will Schmidt. In 1959 my father took me there to have Will help with the purchase of groceries for the Church Summer Camp my father was in charge of that year. That was about 2 years before we moved to Pt. Pleasant and little did I know I would later live there. Shortly after that camp, Will Schmidt died and the store never reopened. That old store was a Sunday School building ("The Annex") while I lived there. Sadly, today there is no place in Pt. Pleasant to buy an ice cream cone.
