And then there is my fourth: I never heard of Maynard Furgeson. We need to have some enlightenment! My niece used to play base clarinet. The instrument was about the same size she was.

I saw Maynard Furgeson and his band in Stevensville, MI in the 70's. I don't think a Walker was in the band. I have Chuck Mangione's big album and about 7 Maynard Ferguson albums. You remember albums?
Holy cow! I thought my Walker cousins had better taste in music than that! Thanks to Jack for one redeeming soul! Jazz is the music of heart and soul. Maynard Furgeson was one of the best trumpeters of the 20th century. You might remember his music from the soundtrack for The Towering Inferno. He also recorded on several of the Rocky soundtracks. So which one is false?
I struggle to remember the trumpeter I knew of in the early 1960s. I listened to him play "Flight of the Bumbblebee" on the trumpet and could hardly believe what I was hearing. It was not Al Hirt. Obviously I was not very "tuned" in. And who is this Chuck fellow?
Tom was obviously a fan of "The Green Hornet" if he remembers "Flight of the Bumblebee" on trumpet! Al Hirt popularized the tune as the theme song from the tv show in 1964. Personally, I liked his car, a 37 Cord made in Auburn, IN.
Jack, I never said anything about Stevensville, MI...
Tom, whenever you ride in an elevator, you're very likely to hear Chuck's "Feels So Good" tune. MUZAK plays it about every third song.

I just figured based on the concert that I heard in Stevensville that you would not have been in his band. Unless your high school band played along in Fort Wayne or something. So I am guessing F on number 3.
And Dave, I like classical, folk, bluegrass, country, and blues too.
Yep, you got it Jack. Mark Colby was Maynard's lead sax player at the time and he spent an afternoon at Wawasee High with us. That evening a number of us went to the concert at Elkhart High School.
Judy and I went to several Chuck Mangione concerts in the mid-80's at the Embassy Theatre in Fort Wayne. Papa Mangione was Chuck's T-shirt hawker. Judy and I got to talking to him and he got us backstage to meet Chuck, Mama, and Gap. We've got a picture with Chuck to mark the occasion. After that, we met the rest of his family, except his sis. We were officially invited to go to Rochester, NY for a famous Mangione meal, but never made it.
