At work this week I was cleaning a storage closet and came across a box of optical
records. The first file was "Norma Walker". I mentioned to my supervisor that
Norma had passed away and that I was surprised to see her name. She had not
known about her passing and asked me how I knew. I explained the "Walker"
relationship. She told how she always looked forward to visits from Dwight and
Norma Jean, and that they were the kindest people she knew. She said they
would sit in the office for a long time and just talk and talk and she always
enjoyed everything they had to say. Then she said that the last she heard, they
were going to California and then she lost touch. She wondered how Dwight was.
I reminded her of the viewing that I had been to recently and told her that it
was for Dwight. She was very saddened by the news that he also was gone.
Anyway, she continued to reminisce about them and I enjoyed her stories.
You see, you never know what kind of impression you will leave with people,
even after you are gone. I pray that the "Walkers" will all be known for
kind words and being good people. What a heritage we all have!

You are right Diane. I remember once talking to Marleen on the cell phone while she was going through a toll booth and she paused to greet the toll taker and thank him. I told her she sounded just like Dad as he had taught me to do just that. As he put it, these people have to put up with a lot of grief all day with customers complaining. The least one can do is try to brighten their day a bit. On Christmas Day, I made a flight attendant's day by thanking her for working on Christmas so I could go be with family.
Bob Drake demonstrated a random act of kindness when we drove a fellow from Glacier Point in Yosemite back to the valley floor after the last bus had already run. Otherwise, he was looking at a 4000 foot vertical decent at 4pm after just having climbed up that far.
During the trio birthday party, we read your message aloud Diane. We all commented about other examples of this we could think of. Thank you for sharing with us.
