Happy New Year!
Dwight spent Christmas in the hospital but was released on New Year's Eve. He originally was taken to the ER with chest pains and shortness of breath on the 23rd. The found fluid in his lungs and around his heart, and likely had a small heart attack. After he was admitted, he had low back pain, and they discovered he had a kidney stone in the ureter, the tube between the kidney and the bladder. It is 6mm in diameter, so likely has been in the kidney for quite some time. It was blocking urine flow which caused pressure to build up in the kidney and the excess fluid in the lungs/heart area. They put a tube through a small incision in his back into the kidney to drain it. A couple of days later, they put a stent in the ureter to allow urine to pass. They removed the kidney tube yesterday before they sent him home. The stone will hopefully stay put until they can take it out in a couple of months. Not sure if they will be able to break it up, or if they'll have to surgically remove it. Apparently, he will need general anesthesia no matter what they decide to do. They need to wait until the heart is stronger, hence the 2 month time period.
There was talk about dialysis, but they've now said it won't be necessary at this time. The lab results are trending in the right direction, and it's hopeful that he'll get back to where he was 2 or 3 months ago.
We're looking forward to Tom, Robin, Carol & Bill's arrival in the next few days. He said he'd likely feel up to going out.

Thanks for the good news about Dwight. It is hard to keep a good man down.
Yes, one would like to think you can't but..... Dwight went back to the ER late Friday night. This time they found a urinary track infection. As many times as they put a catheter in and out, I'm not surprised! He's not a happy camper right now, but is on antibiotics, and hopefully on the mend. He was not admitted this time and is back at Monte Vista. We see the primary care doctor next week and the urologist.
Tom Robin Carol & Bill have arrived at their condo in Oceanside and on Monday we will visit with Dwight. We are a little over 30 miles from San Diego. We are hoping that Dwight is feeling well enough for an outing while we are in the area. But, as is common in these situations, we take 1 day at a time.
If I fail to tell all of you about our weather here, perhaps you won't feel too bad. We do have a view of the ocean from our deck. The beach is about 2 blocks away.
Don't let Tom brag too much about our weather. It's been cold and rainy. Today the high was in the 50's. I will admit it was sunny, though.
